Really Big Fonts, Beta for 2 year old products, Ajaxy eye candy, gradient background and don’t forget the Lego like Logos.
Are these really the relevant signatures of web 2.0 software products and services?
The answer is a loud Yes and it’s about time.
Let me start by saying, I like buzz words. Every few years we are going to have severe market displacements with one technology shift or another. Such is the nature of our existence. A cool buzzword gives some focus to that chaos. That’s how I feel about the term Web 2.0. I want to get that out of the way as most articles are still written discussing what in the world does this mean. It means nothing. It means this is the second version of the craze that started us writing emails to our Grandmother.

Why another cycle of this paradigm shift and why now? Well, because our grandmothers can surf the net now and getting a broadband connection for her Condo is a matter of calling the telephone guy. That’s it. It’s not a revolution. There isn’t any brand new Indian Institute of Technology graduate developing software with new language skills. This is just the next iteration of a journey started not very long ago and this is the only time it could have happened.
